Grassroots Foundation has launched a project to build low cost houses for deserving families in Ampara. The initiative is part of the Foundation's efforts to assist the poor, under privileged and down trodden citizens of Sri Lanka . The objective of the programme is to uplift the living standards of rural people living below the poverty line by building a clean and hygienic environment.

The Foundation is currently working with low cost housing organizations that can provide a house at around Rs. 200,000.00 each for very deserving Families in the District. The Foundation uses skills of the villagers in construction activities of these houses with the intention of bringing out the hidden talents of these rural dwellers as well as to build self sufficient future entrepreneurs in the district. The Foundation believes that by doing this, they will enable the youth not only to be empowered in creating a sustainable livelihood but will also help to promote peaceful and harmonious co-existence amongst communities.

On June 09 th , 2007 the Grassroots Foundation took part in a ceremony to lay of the foundation stone for five (05) houses to start off the Housing project. The recipients of these five homes have been selected under the watchful eye of Hon. P. Dayarathne MP who is also one of the Foundation's Vice Presidents. These houses will be completed by end of September 2007.The Foundation then seeks to expand this project into other districts of the country.
