Youth Dialogue Forums on Democracy, Peace-Building and Citizenship

This program is a basis of a series of youth dialogues on democracy, peace-building and citizenship. It will bring together youth groups, both male and female and from different ethnic and religious backgrounds, to dialogue with each other on issues that are immediately relevant to an agenda of democratic governance. In this proposal, we seek to continue this Youth Dialogue Forums Program.

This program has three main objectives:

1. Raising the political and social consciousness as well as understanding of the youth on current issues pf governance, conflict and peace, political reforms etc. who will be participating in the program.

2. Bringing the youth together to reflect on, discuss and debate on political and social issues that are central to the realities in Sri Lanka today.

3. To record and bring to the attention of political leaders, policymakers, key influential personalities in the country the voice of the youth on major public policy issues such as governance, democracy, economic development, political change, conflict and peace.

Areas of focus

Galle, Kurunegala, Badulla, Colombo, Jaffna districts with participation from areas of Polonnaruwa district adjacent to Badulla district and areas of Puttalam district adjacent to Kurunegala district.

Duration: 6 Months

12 One-day Community Dialogue Workshops for 50 participants in maximum covering 5 Districts ( Badulla, Galle, Kurunegala, Colombo and Jaffna) .

4 Community Dialogue Workshops in each District within the timeframe of 6 months

that covers the participation of 1000 youth

3 Inter-District Dialogue in Colombo.
